The Artistic Journey

Welcome to my digital gallery. I appreciate your interest in my creative path. I was raised on a Pembrokeshire farm where livestock in the kitchen and dung-powered Agas were part of the daily rhythm. While traditional academics never quite clicked, I discovered a natural aptitude for interpreting the world through sketches and photographs. Art became my sanctuary, moving from a mere slot in a monotonous school schedule to a lifelong calling, fueled by a series of mentors who showed me that creativity is boundless. After finishing school with an A-level in Art, I found my way to Carmarthen College for my Foundation year, where I was fortunate enough to be mentored by the legendary Osi Osmond.
My formal training continued at The University of Central England, where I pursued a degree in Fine Art Painting. I suspect my acceptance was clinched by a landscape of St. Brides Bay painted from my childhood bedroom window—a view my interviewer happened to adore. During the nineties, while at University I was part of a small cohort of dedicated painters in an era dominated by conceptual happenings and the early digital boom. Though I attended seminars by figures like Tracey Emin, my heart remained tethered to the tactile reality of oil and pigment. Being a country girl in landlocked Birmingham only intensified my need to translate my yearning for the Pembrokeshire coast onto canvas.
Upon graduating, I received the Sir Whitworth Wallis Marine Award for my piece ‘Thalassic,’ a work born from my deep emotional connection to the shifting tides of the Welsh coast. Today, my practice remains centered on the transformative light of the horizon. These large-scale oils serve as a visceral dialogue between the restless power of the ocean and the enduring stillness of the land. Each painting is an atmospheric exploration of memory and atmosphere, utilizing a rich language of texture and tonal layers to evoke the ethereal meeting of water and sky.
